Wes Clark Hits the Gym

During a tour of a Portsmouth, NH YMCA today, and to the obvious fright of his staffers, Wes Clark unexpectedly jumped on the gym equipment. I'm sure the staffers had tank turret flashbacks. But Clark pulled it off in great form. A regular swimmer, he quipped that some of his staffers could learn a thing or two if they spent a little time working out. Then looking around the bubble he continued "You guys in the press too...well not all of you. But a few of you."

Tomorrow Clark will pick up a number of endorsements including some former Clinton admins, Barry Levinson, and Michael Moore.

Sooo Cold!

It was -6F with some pretty serious winds making it a chilly -26F at the Manchester airport today when Ret. Gen. Wesley Clark flew in from South Carolina. There was a short press conference and Clark lit into what he described as the Bush administration's mishandling of post 9.11 foriegn policies.

If you picked up this morning's USAToday you saw my front page of Howard Dean. And on 2A, a three column pic of Wesley Clark. Further down on 4A is a pic of Carol Moseley-Braun, who dropped out of the race today in Iowa and endorsed Howard Dean.

Tomorrow's forecast is for more record breaking low temps, and I'll spend the day following the General.

Clark Closes In

Looks like Wes Clark's considerable efforts in NH are paying off. Some independent polls show Dean's lead narrowing into single digits. One poll, by the American Research Group, Inc., showed Dean with 32 percent support and Clark with 22 percent in the three-day period that ended Tuesday.

Things are really getting tight and it looks like South Carolina is going to be a real battleground. Dean heads back to Iowa tonight to contest the caucuses while I'll continue to cover Clark as he'll no doubt be working hard in the Granite State.

All New Hampshire All the Time.

For the last two months it seems like all I've done is cover the democratic presidential hopefuls in New Hampshire. Logging plenty of miles criss-crossing the Granite State and lots of time with most of the candidates. And things will continue to ramp up as we get closer to the nation's first presidential primary on January 27. I'll be updating the photo module with plenty of images from the campaign, but in the meantime here's my Wes Clark cover of the LA Times from Friday.
